The Camino de Santiago, or Compostela Trail, has for centuries represented an important pilgrimage route from France, across the Pyrenees and the north of Spain to the tomb of St James in Santiago de Compostela. Following the most interesting sections from Roncesvalles in Spain through famous pilgrimage cities such as Leon and Pamplona, the landscapes change daily from mountain trails to forests and open plains. A continuous reminder of the pilgrimage trail is the many churches, monasteries and crosses which line the route. With the camaraderie of a small group and expert guide, the trip is fully supported throughout. At night stay in atmospheric towns in a selection of hand picked hotels where the local flavours are introduced by your hosts.

DAY 1 Arrive Roncesvalles, afternoon walk (3hrs) DAY 2 Visit Pamplona and walk to Puente la Reina (4hrs) DAY 3 Walk to Estella (4-5hrs) DAY 4 Visit the wine fountain "Fuente del Vino" enroute to Villamayor de Monjardin, drive to Burgos (3hrs) DAY 5 Walk to Rabe de las Calzadas visiting the ruins of a monastery at San Anton (4hrs) DAY 6 Follow the Camino across the Castilian Meseta to Fromiz (5hrs) DAY 7 Visit Leon and walk the Camino to Hospital de Orbigo, overnight Astorga (3hrs) DAY 8 Walk and visit Templar castle at Ponferrada, overnight Villafranca (4hrs) DAY 9 Walk into Galicia and the town of El Cebreiro (5.5hrs) DAY 10 Continue along rural tracks to Portomarin (5hrs) DAY 11 Walk through Celtic country, overnight Arzuea (5hrs) DAY 12 Early arrival in Santiago with rest of day to explore the cathedral and historic centre DAY 13 Trip concludes
